Website design has undergone many changes in the last few years. Search engine optimization has a lot to do with current changes. The explosion of Word Press sites also has contributed to changes in website design. Despite these recent changes, you can expect new design ideas to pop up in your work. Here are some new website design trends to watch for this year (2019).
No Uniformity
Many designers use the concept of an invisible plane graphing lines. When designing a website, they apply elements to this graph. For most websites, visitors can see the grid easily. You could look on the left to see the logo, title and content. New trends are breaking that pattern by placing elements without uniformity. In an asymmetrical design, items are moved on different areas of this plane. Thus, the visitor is jolted because the grid isn’t smooth, but broken. This stimulates the brain. It asks the visitor to embrace change or something new. However, it is becoming more common.
No Boxes
Gone are the days of flat design. Today, designers are choosing shapes that reflect nature. These aren’t circles, squares, rectangles, or any straight-sided shape. They are called organic shapes. They are being used to make websites feel more friendly and in line with human emotions. People are using shapes of ponds or nature to make the site feel more alive. They are using things you would see around you. They add an element of intrigue or differentness.
Back to the Past Design
Recommended for You
If fluid shapes are meant to intrigue you, the nostalgic design is meant to remind you of your past. Nostalgia is popular in many aspects of design from furniture to art. The time is right to bring back old design elements in new websites. You will see more website designers choose styles that connect us to the past in both look and content. Color schemes will remind you of the design trends of the past, and typography will make us think of a different generation.
Picture Placements
How website designers are displaying photographs is changing. They are putting pictures in circles, making them black and white or adding a drop shadow behind them. They want to have visitors drawn to images. But, designers aren’t stopping there. Now, they are exploring other ways of showing pictures. Where most websites feature a large primary photo that expands across a site, designers are changing how they present those main pictures. They are reducing the sizing of pictures and using other tricks to be different. They are layering design elements to show images differently and with flair.
One-Color Sites
Many designers are choosing one color or no colors at all on sites. When done well, people will remember that design element and then remember a site. Limiting yourself to one color can make your brand stronger. Because most sites have two to five colors, you will be unique and memorable with just one color or no color at all. This will give you a marketing advantage. Some sites are using black, white and gray. These are not considered colors. This is helping sites be different.
