The world is turning to SUV’s sadly, however, there is somewhat of a silver lining in that several manufacturers have built super fast variants of their cooking SUV’s. Sitting at a stop light in a Porsche 911 and having an SUV pull up alongside may cause you to do a double take when it beats you off the line. Some SUV’s are the new muscle cars of today, so we picked and compiled a list of the quickest SUVs you can buy today.
BMW X6M
0-60 mph: 3.8 sec | 567 hp |553 lb-ft | $112,295
Anything with a M badge from BMW is usually very quick and the X6m doesn’t disappoint. Despite weighing almost as much as coal mine it dispatches 0-60 in less than 4 seconds but ultimately it’s not as practical as it’s X5m sibling. It’s trying too hard to be a sports car and SUV and coupe and it doesn’t really work but it makes our list.
Porsche Macan Turbo with Performance Package
0-60 mph: 3.7 sec | 440 hp |442 lb-ft |$96,295
The Performance pack gives the Macan Turbo an additional 40 horsepower and 36 lb-ft of torque from the twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-6, for an extra $10,445. This gets you to 60 mph half a second quicker that the already very quick Macan Turbo.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk
0-60 mph: 3.5 sec | 707 hp |645 lb-ft |$86,995
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is the definition of insanity, it’s an SUV with a Hellcat engine, what more can I say. Slightly and I mean ever so slightly bonkers. It should carry the following message when you start the car, “with great power comes great responsibility” because this beast requires some handling and I want one, so it makes my second choice. Why? well why not? It’s the most powerful SUV on the planet with 707 hp and 645 ft-lbs. Due to it’s all-wheel drive it can put all that power to the pavement with a glorious bellow and you are at 60 mph in a scant 3.5 seconds. It’s brutally quick but it’s got plenty of room and space for the dog. It’s a perfect if gas guzzling daily driver.
Lamborghini Urus
0-60 mph: 3.5 sec | 641 hp |627 lb-ft |$200,000
Lamborghini has finally entered the highly profitable SUV segment with the Urus, one of the world’s fastest of its kind. It’s DNA is part Porsche (the Engine) with some Audi mixed in and dressed in a Lamborghini Suit. With a top speed of 190 mph it has the highest top speed of any SUV, until the next one comes along.
Alfa Romeo Stelvio quadrifoglio
0-60 mph: 3.3 sec | 505 hp |443 lb-ft |$85,340
The 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifolgio shouldn’t exist, but it does and I for one am really glad it does, since it’s an SUV that will go from 0-60 faster than an Aston Martin DB11, a Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport and a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat……yes, it’s that good.
Mercedes AMG GLC63S
0-60 mph: 3.3 sec | 503 hp |516 lb-ft |$104,910
Shoehorning big turbocharged V8s into smaller cars has been Mercedes’ thing for many years and it’s been very successful for them. There isn’t much they won’t put an AMG badge on these days. The twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 is a direct transplant from the C63 family of sedan, coupe, and convertibles and it helps propel the AMG GLC63S to 60 in 3.3 seconds, the joint 2nd fastest car on our list.
Tesla Model X P100D
0-60 mph: 2.8 sec | 762 hp |791 lb-ft |$138,000
That the quickest car to sixty on our list is the mind bending Tesla Model X P100D comes as no surprise given the instant torque an electric motor provides. This one is the only car on our list to duck under 3 seconds, which puts it in a class with the McLaren P1, 2.6s and the Porsche 911 Turbo S, 2.6s.
