The world of marketing has swiftly changed over the last decade.
Especially the mediums individuals and businesses use to market their brand, whether it is through traditional, digital or social media outlets. Because of those rapid changes in the marketing industry, the American Marketing Association West Michigan, an organization that provides resources to marketers, implemented a new outlet in which marketing firms can continually be informed about the latest national news in the marketing industry.
AMA West Michigan launched a new podcast, “Marketers in Motion,” this month in which marketing experts can explain their experience in marketing and offer advice to up-and-coming firms.
“It is our primary goal through the podcast to really provide quality education for marketers in West Michigan, as well as relevant topics and trends that are happening in the marketing space,” said Meahgan Pear, president of AMA West Michigan. “We wanted to have another avenue and channel for not only our members but to marketers across the globe because our podcast channel can reach anyone on the internet. Our goal is to (provide) information for our members in the West Michigan marketing community but also to showcase all the awesome things our marketers are doing in West Michigan and highlight the talent in here.”
The podcast is available on Stitcher, SoundCloud and iTunes. Many of the marketing experts who will be sharing their expertise are speakers from the organization’s monthly signature lunch series. Pear said the podcast will feature experts who will be talking about marketing strategy, social media, website development, search engine optimization and cause marketing, among other things.
Former radio producer Josh Janowiak is the host of the podcast. He said it will run at least through the winter, spring and fall months and it will be produced once per month. As of press time, the organization has produced five episodes in two months to get listeners accustomed to the theme.
One of the guests who has been on the podcast is Boxed Water Chief Marketing Officer Rob Koenen. The Holland-based company promotes sustainability practices by selling natural water in a box.
He spoke about cause marketing, which is branding a product that can be beneficial to the business and society.
“Marketing has completely changed in the last five years,” he said. “The large companies haven’t figured it out yet. Consumers are no longer looking for cute sayings or flashy ad campaigns. They are looking for brands that have value and brands that have a soul behind them. That is why Boxed Water has been successful because people are buying into the fact that plastic is killing people and also the fact that this brand has value.”
Koenen said the podcast is a great platform where people can learn, in detail, about some of the marketing techniques used at Boxed Water and how it has worked for them and how others can apply it to their own business.
“We are just super excited,” Pear said. “This is really new and a great avenue for us as a chapter to be able to produce it and highlight our West Michigan community.”
