The latest online search data shows that the residents of Japan and South Korea “lead the world” in overall interest for topics related to “blockchain” and “Ethereum.”
This, according to the ConsenSys SEO Team, which published the results of its global search interest study on May 20th, 2019. The Team at ConsenSys, a Brooklyn, New York-based Ethereum-focused development studio, compared search interest in regions throughout the world for terms including “bitcoin”, “cryptocurrency”, among others.
“Huge Spike” In Bitcoin-related Search Interest In Venezuela
According to ConsenSys’ report, overall search interest for Bitcoin remains strong in the US and the UK. However, Bitcoin-related search interest is the highest in Brazil. ConsenSys’ SEO Team also confirmed that there has been “a huge spike” in online search interest for Bitcoin in Venezuela, a country suffering from one of the worst economic crises in its history.
Taiwan: Ethereum And Blockchain Search Interest “Outranks Even Bitcoin”
Although it’s not possible to obtain accurate crypto-related search interest data for mainland China (due to the Great Firewall of China), ConsenSys’ report revealed that online searches related to blockchain and Ethereum are “growing fast” in Taiwan (officially the Republic of China). Notably, search interest for distributed ledger technology (DLT) and Ethereum “outrank even Bitcoin” in Taiwan.
ConsenSys’ report also noted that Japan is the “highest ranking nation” for ‘blockchain’ searches. According to data obtained by ConsenSys’ SEO Team, 39% of crypto-related searches in Japan were for “blockchain”, 30% for Ethereum, 29% for Bitcoin, and only 3% for cryptocurrency.
Russia Has “Most Even Search Trend Spread”
The SEO Team at ConsenSys also found that Russia “exhibits one of the most even search trend spreads in the world.” This, as online search interest in the Russian Federation for Bitcoin stood at 37%, 34% for blockchain, 26% for Ethereum, and 3% for cryptocurrency.
Researchers at ConsenSys’ concluded:
The high ranking of searches for blockchain and Ethereum suggests that Russians are already looking beyond just cryptocurrency and store of value in their attempts to harness decentralization.
“US Lagging Behind Badly In Blockchain”
ConsenSys’ SEO Team also mentioned that the US is “lagging behind badly in blockchain search term diversity with ‘Bitcoin’ dominating 70% of searches.” Meanwhile, search interest in the US for ‘cryptocurrency’ came in second “at just 13%”; Ethereum at 10%; and ‘blockchain’ at 7%.
According to ConsenSys’ SEO Team:
The US exhibits a brand name bias with these numbers, suggesting that the technology isn’t understood until a ‘brand’ like Bitcoin or Ethereum introduces the concept to households.
Interestingly, ConsenSys’ report revealed that the UK had a “very similar spread to the United States.” In the UK, ‘Bitcoin’ accounted for 68% of all crypto-related searches; searches for ‘cryptocurrency’ came in second at 13%; ‘Ethereum’ at 11%; and ‘blockchain’ at 8%.
