Huawei has begun a bit of a tradition over the past few years unveiling their top of the line SoC at IFA Berlin each September, and it looks like this year will be no different. We had already seen some hints at the new SoC and now a teaser video suggests that the Kirin 990 will be 5G capable.

Huawei is extremely serious about their in house chip production, unlike make other OEMs their chips are exclusively for their own use which allows them to build a strong vertical integration between devices, SOC and software. The Kirin 980 was already a powerful chip for ML and computational photography and we are expecting this trend to continue this year.

Huawei is a photography focused brand when it comes to their consumer mobile devices so we would expect the the Kirin 990 expands on heir image technology, incorporates 5G and furthers their advancements in AI/ ML. WE will have a man on the ground in IFA again this year so we will bring you liver coverage from the show floor.
