Turning my home into a smart home is one of the best things I ever did. Not only that it’s cool, but it’s also very handy and useful too. Having said that, one of the cheapest ways to create a smart home is to purchase a wifi outlet. I got my hands on the Gosund mini wifi outlet for a couple of weeks, and it is amazing!
For those of you who think a smart home is just for lazy people, you obviously haven’t tried having one. The purpose is not to just lay down in bed and never get up, but to be convenient and efficient. I will talk about how I used these outlets later in this article, and how a smart home can change your life.

Before, I used the Sonoff smart switch because of its very cheap price and space-saving design. The downside is that you will have to splice wires and destroy the original design of the appliance that you are attaching it to. Also, once you replace the appliance, you will have to perform the procedure again.
None of those problems are existent in a smart outlet. The Gosund Mini Wifi Outlet purely plugs and play. It will sit on top of your current outlet and will serve as an adapter for your appliance.
Gosund Mini Wifi Outlet
The Gosund Mini Wifi Outlet is a premium looking, all-white smart outlet that connects to wifi and allows you to control it via wifi. It has a product dimension of 1.8×1.2×1.2 inches and weighs 8.8 ounces.
In front of the device, is a 3 prong outlet. You will be able to plugin devices that have plugs with grounding prongs such as laptops, aircon, and other heavy-duty electronics.
How it works
The Gosund Mini Wifi Outlet is very easy to use. The first thing you have to do is download the app called Smart Life. You can look it up at the Google Playstore or the App Store. You can even scan the QR code provided in the box of the product itself for faster searching.
Once you’ve installed the app, all you gotta do is plug the Gosund mini wifi outlet and start connecting it to the internet. Press and hold the power button on the side of the device until it starts blinking.
Then, open the app and click ‘add a device’. The application will find the wifi outlet and starts connecting it to your wifi. Once the set up is complete, the wifi outlet is completely ready to be used.
Best ways to use the Gosund Mini Wifi Outlet
Air Conditioning
I first dabbled with the idea of a smart home purely because of air conditioning. I love the idea that I can control my air conditioning even if I’m away from home. For instance, I am out with my wife to a dinner party and will be coming home late. I would prefer it if I came home to a cool room rather than a warm one.
I use Alexa at home. While shouting at Alexa to turn on the air conditioning is fun, that’s not all. I can monitor every time the nanny opens the air conditioning for my child. I can also turn it off if I deemed it unnecessary and overused.
Also, the timer feature is amazing. You can set schedules as to when and what time the air conditioning will turn on and off. Like me, I have set my air conditioner to turn on at 10 pm and to close at 6 am every day. Whatever you do in between won’t change the parameters of the existing schedule.
Television
Plugging your television into a smart outlet can be very convenient and helpful. I have a Chromecast plugged into my television, so I can pretty much navigate my television without having to touch any remote controller (which is often lost).
But what really helps me is the timer feature of the Gosund Mini Wifi Outlet. Ever binged through a Netflix series and can’t seem to stop watching? Then later realize its 1 am and you have to get up early in the morning. Setting a timer into your television forces you to stop watching at a specific time and helps you to live a healthier lifestyle.
Also, if you have self-control, you can just shout at Alexa or Google to turn off the TV and never get up.
Lamps
Anytime you can remotely control a lamp, is awesome. When you wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and you need proper lighting, you can just tell Alexa or google without blindly scraping for the switch.
Lamps are also often left lit. When you go out of the house, you often forget if you’ve shut off the lamp. Plugging it in a smart outlet solves that issue as you can detect if it’s left on, and you can turn it off remotely.

The Gosund Mini Wifi Outlet works great throughout my testing. It has a stable connection which is imperative when it comes to smart outlets. The response time is good and it gets the job done if you use your phone to control it.
However, when it comes to google home and Alexa, sometimes they fail to navigate this outlet. I don’t know if its Google or Alexa’s fault or the outlet itself. But there are times where it takes two tries before the outlet responds and can be reached by the assistant.
The app is very easy to use. I had no trouble using it even as a first-timer. I would highly recommend this product, especially at its price point. Just be sure to check out the appliance wattage output. The Gosund Mini Wifi Outlet has a very low maximum wattage capacity and will probably get broken if you exceeded the allowable wattage.
