This week, UFC Fight Night is taking place halfway around the world from the USA. With the time change, this UFC Fight Night is more of a Fight Overnight, or even Fight Morning. This main event is worth staying up for, or setting an alarm. The strawweight title is back on the line, and the challenger is on a red hot winning streak. You can stream this main event live to watch Andrade vs. Zhang in UFC Fight Night exclusively on ESPN+.
UFC Fight Night Andrade vs. Zhang is coming over live from the Shenzhen Dayun Arena in Shenzhen, China on Saturday, August 31. This Fight Night is a split broadcast event, with the Prelims starting at 3 a.m. Eastern time on ESPN and then the Main Card taking over at 6 a.m. Eastern.
Jéssica Andrade (20-6) is defending her Strawweight Championship for the first time, and doing so a long way from home. Andrade is originally from Brazil, which is also where she won the belt just three months ago. She has defined herself by her knockout power, a fearlessness in the face of physical punishment. Andrade can clearly take many a punch and still have enough left to deliver a finishing blow if her own. However, with six career pro losses, there are fighters who have figured out how to beat Andrade.
Weili Zhang (19-1) is a remarkable Challenger in many different ways. She’s risen rapidly in the UFC ranks, as this title match will be only her fourth UFC fight. Her only professional loss came in her first ever fight, which means she brings a 19 fight winning streak into this match. Plus born in Northern China and fighting out of Beijing, Zhang will be the same type of home-crowd favorite Challenger that Andrade was when she won her title. Will it result in the same kind of victory? It will be worth watching for it.
It was just a few months ago that Andrade became Champion, when she defeated “Thug” Rose Namajunus in stunning fashion at UFC 237. Watch this instant classic of a fight here to get a taste of the power Zhang will try to overcome.
