A 37-year-old man is facing domestic violence-related charges in court after a 12-hour police stand-off on the awning of a high-rise balcony near where his girlfriend was found dead in a pool of blood.

About 6:30am yesterday, a pedestrian near the Chatswood train station saw a woman lying in a pool of blood in an alleyway off Brown Street, Chatswood.

Emergency services established a crime scene after finding the 34-year-old Hee Kyung Choi was dead.

After 7:00am they saw there was a man, June Oh Seo, lying on an awning above a 27th-floor balcony.

Mr Seo refused to come down and police brought in negotiators and a Korean interpreter to communicate with the man.

Mr Seo appeared distressed and at times dangled his legs off the high balcony.

After a 12-hour stand-off he was detained by police at 7:20pm and taken to the Royal North Shore Hospital.

He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm relating to an earlier incident.

Mr Seo was in a relationship with Ms Choi, who was found earlier that day.

Police said Mr Seo was known to them.

He did not appear when the matter was mentioned in Hornsby Court on Tuesday afternoon and his lawyer did not apply for bail.

Court documents allege Mr Seo assaulted his partner occasioning actual bodily harm about 4:30am yesterday in Chatswood in a domestic violence-related incident.

“Potentially by then there may or may not be further charges I gather,” magistrate Daniel Reiss said.

Mr Seo’s solicitor did not comment outside the court on whether the accused would apply for bail next Friday when the matter is slated for court.

The documents said Mr Seo lives in Eastwood.
