Finance 2.0 – How Data Analytics and Warehousing is Innovating Finance and the Accounting Practice, Wednesday 23rd October

When and where is it on?

This event will take place on Wednesday 23rd October in Baggot Plaza from 5.30pm.

How many years has it been going?

This is the first Joint Event between DAMA (Data Management Association of Ireland) and the CAI (Chartered Accounting Institute.  We are attempting to bring together two uniquely different audiences to talk about Data!

How Data Analytics and Warehousing is Innovating Finance

What was the inspiration to start it?

DAMA Ireland held an event on AI and Data Quality in Price Waterhouse Coopers at the Dublin Docklands earlier in the year and we connected with a member of the Technology Board for the Chartered Institute of Accountants.  We talked about how data is innovating the accounting practice. Yes of course data has always been influential in Finance teams but we are now finding that there are some very interesting things now happening in this space.

For example Finance people are now leveraging the power of Data Warehousing to inform wider Finance and Accounting decisions etc. etc.  Coupled with age old issues like Data Quality and standards we quickly realised the overlap here and the potential to hold a joint data event with the CAI to bring our two audiences together.

What exciting things can people look forward to?

Both the CAI and the DAMA communities can look forward to hearing from our vastly experienced speakers.  We will also be holding a panel session where we want to explore and investigate how data is making an impact in Financial Accounting.  We will talk about how Accountants are now moving away from the general ledger and more towards enterprise data warehouses and examine how new roles which are now being identified in business partner areas to help marry accountancy or finance elements with data and technology.
