Amazon challenges new Google Home with these low price Echo deals

Amazon may have just taken the wind out of Google’s sails.

On Tuesday the American tech giant took to the stage in New York City and unveiled its next-generation Google Home Mini, along with the Pixel 4, Nest Wi-Fi and the Pixelbook Go.

The second-generation Google Home Mini ditches established branding and is now called the Nest Mini. The hardware boasts punchier bass, a higher maximum volume and better sound overall.

Of course, the Nest Mini also comes with Google’s talkative Assistant built-in, too.

While Google’s latest connected home device will surely get some fans giddy with excitement, it seems Amazon is trying to counter it with a discount for its own mini smart speaker, the Echo Dot.

The Seattle-based retail giant is slashing £15 off the Echo Dot, meaning it can be picked up for just £34.99.

It’s worth noting the offer applies only to the third-generation Echo, not Amazon’s flashy new Echo Dot with clock.

Additionally, the retail firm is also cutting the cost of the Echo Show 5, meaning the smart display can be obtained for £69.99.

The Amazon Echo deals come as the retail giant is gearing up to release a swathe of new connected home hardware.

Amazon held an event at its Seattle headquarters last month where it showed off a number of new devices. These ranged from the new Echo Show 8 smart display to the Echo Buds that directly rival Apple’s AirPods.

Next month, Amazon will release the Echo Show 8, Echo Flex and Echo Studio. All of which are designed to improve a user’s connected home arsenal.

The Echo Show 8 basically slots in-between the regular Echo Show and Echo Show 5. As the name suggests, the device totes an eight-inch screen that can be used for video streaming, video calling and more.

Meanwhile, the Echo Flex is plug-in smart speaker that brings Alexa to any socket you have free in your home. The device has been pitched as a quick way to harness the chatty voice assistant.

Finally, Amazon’s Echo Studio is being positioned as the firm’s best speaker for audiophiles. The hardware boasts two midrange speakers, a tweeter and a 5-inch woofer that should deliver loud, punchy, sound.
