You had to sit through sports to watch it, but the final trailer for the final movie of the Skywalker saga is here. At this point, everyone already knows whether or not that care about this third ending for a Star Wars trilogy. You know whether or not you’re going to see it. Along with this trailer, tickets are available now. Plus you already know if you’re going to watch this trailer or not, combing through it for clues or avoiding it entirely to avoid tainting your brain with spoilers.
So yeah, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, let’s get it over with.
Not too much new. No secret reveal of Matt Smith as some new secret villain or whatever. Just more new looks at stuff we already know is here. Lando. Sheev. Water planets. Decayed throne room. Some sense of conclusion.
But the heavy emphasis on emotion feels appropriate. C-3P0 just wants one last chance to see his friends. Nerds may get obsessed with lore and details. But big sweeping feelings have always been the true appeal of Star Wars. If nothing else, J.J. Abrams can at least deliver on that. It’s a space opera. They released this trailer on the late Carrie Fisher’s birthday for crying out loud. The Force will be with her, always.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is in theaters this December. For more on Star Wars, check out The Mandalorian premiering next month on Disney+ and here are the movies we want MCU head honcho Kevin Feige to make.
