Zombie Moths Old Fat Bikes and Wildly Successful Blogging?

In under 2 weeks my wife and I will return to Chiang Mai Thailand.

We are doing a 6 week house sit in a fun, sleepy little Thai community located beside a national park.

Being by a national park in Thailand means interacting with plenty of animal life when low/rainy season hits.

After the first big storm last year in the same home I saw a Biblical swarm of winged termites rushing a light in the backyard.

Said swarm looked like moths.

Check out the video I filmed:

See how the termites swarmed the bright light like zombie moths, being pulled in mindlessly?

After 15 minutes all of the bugs died.

Natural process of course.

But many new bloggers experience the same online life cycle.

How it works: said blogger goes bonkers about making money online, chases bright, shiny objects guaranteed to make them big money, said blogger flames out, and quits, seeing their blogging career die in 15 days, or 15 weeks, or maybe 15 months.

Do not chase bright, shiny objects guys. You know what I mean. All those tools or strategies or ridiculous gurus who promise you the key to make big money fast.

The Old School Fat Bicycle

I am dating myself here, but hey; I will turn 43 years old in about a month.

When I was a kid back in the 70’s and 80’s I had a few old school, super heavy, sturdy bicycles. Said bicycles were tough to get going, with some heavy peddling to start, but after you put forth some effort the bikes moved powerfully, then, they would coast on their own steam for a bit, due to the momentum you established.

If you want to be a wildly successful blogger, forget about chasing bright, shiny objects like our dying moth buddies. Dwell on the old, fat bicycle analogy.

Put in the legwork in the beginning. Sure you will feel a bit uncomfortable learning blogging, following your passion, patiently practicing your writing, creating helpful content and building connections by promoting other bloggers. This is like those first few tough, tension-filled pedals, to get the bike rolling.

After putting in the leg work – however uncomfortable – the bike moves forward at an increasing speed until eventually, the momentum from the bicycle’s heavy weight actually pulls the bike forward with minimal effort on your part.

Blogging-wise, things actually get easier if you do things right from Day #1 as a blogger and back your actions with a prospering, loving, abundant blogging energy.

With less effort on your part, money-making opportunities, clients, customers and prospering partnerships will flow your way. But you cannot chase outcomes like those moths that die super quickly. You need to think about peddling the old school, heavy bicycle by following your passion, by learning blogging from pros, by practicing, by creating and connecting and by following each step on a daily basis for years.

Nobody said the blogging journey feels easy in the beginning but after committing fully to blogging for 3-6 months you note how things do get easier and easier, as your success momentum carries you forward and draws successful results to you with less effort on your part.

You will still need to work. But you won’t be essentially killing yourself for peanuts, as the legwork you put in as a newbie helps yield fabulous results years down the road.

I filmed a short video this morning diving into the concept of putting in the time and doing things right, using the analogies of moths, the old school bicycle and successful blogging.
