This week, Tilman Fertitta meets with Gus and Jessica Trevino of K&N Custom Granite.
K&N Custom Granite is a family-owned granite company that was impacted by Hurricane Harvey last year. According to their website, their “goal is to not only help you design and customize your dream kitchen, bathroom, bar top, out door kitchen, or laundry room; but to insure we make the process easy and enjoyable for you.” They offer both residential and commercial options, ranging from kitchens and bathrooms to wine grottos and built-ins.

In the wake of Harvey, the Trevinos’ business was closed for two and a half weeks, resulting in a major loss for the company. They were already struggling before the hurricane devastated the area and are close to declaring bankruptcy. Gus tells Fertitta that they have no Plan B. Last year, they did $694,000 in sales, which Fertitta says isn’t a lot. He challenges them to design a bar countertop with a bullnose cut.
Instead of just a countertop, the team surprises Fertitta with a fully operational bar—working into the night to complete it. Gus ends up fainting due to the pressure before Fertitta arrives. When they unveil the countertop to Fertitta, he questions why they used a “rough material.” Their countertop makes the space look a bit too rustic. He applauds his commitment but says they underdelivered. He challenges them to deliver the proper product for Brenner’s Steakhouse on the Bayou.

On deal day, the Trevinos present Fertitta with the new bar. He says it’s “different” and “exactly what [he] was looking for.” He adds that he likes the craftsmanship and color. Ultimately, Fertitta suggests they become the priority stone vendor for the Golden Nugget at the Toyota Center and three restaurants—a $200,000 deal.

According to CNBC, the reality television show “introduces promising companies across the country to one of America’s most successful businessmen: billionaire hospitality mogul Tilman Fertitta, Chairman, CEO, and sole shareholder of Landry’s, Inc.” Featured entrepreneurs present their small business to Fertitta in the hopes that he will place a large purchase order. But before they make their pitch, they must prove to the hospitality mogul that their product is worth it through challenges and customer feedback.
