Beware Setting Money Goals with Your Blog

I read a post on Facebook yesterday.

One dude shared how he would do whatever it takes to reach a specific money goal this year.

Another dude commented how he made over a million dollars last year, and his life had not changed much.

Of course. Money does not change your feelings, beyond paying bills and buying stuff, and feeling temporarily better, for just a little bit. Why? Acquiring sums of money creates a temporary emotion that changes. I recall hitting certain income levels during my career. Excitement peaked. Great. 2 hours later I felt normal, or, calm. I would feel depressed by nightfall. Even though I could pay bills easily and buy stuff, depression energy sat within. Unhappiness sat in my being, so the being making money felt unhappy. Nothing outside of me could change the feelings within me.

Please re-read the prior line. Few humans get it, understand it and hug this basic truth of life.

Money does not buy happiness. Money expands who you are.

Blogging Money Goals

I see bloggers setting money goals, destined for ruin in most cases, because setting the money goal comes from the palpable, horrifying fear of NOT ENOUGH. 6 figures. 4 figures this month. 7 figures. Most bloggers fail horribly following this money hungry approach; money responds to service, not fear-filled, desperate, greedy SOBs. But a few get really good at manipulating people to send them money. How do these 6 and 7 figure earners feel? Still afraid of losing money, if fear goaded them to make 6 or 7 figures.

Money expands who you are. Billionaires blow their brains out because having billions of dollars OUTSIDE OF YOU does not change the fear-pain-depression INSIDE OF YOU…capiche?

Millionaires abuse drugs and alcohol because acquiring oodles of a means of exchange called money does not change your feelings of depression, grief, fear, pain and suffering, permanently. You buy a Ferrari. Awesome. But after the initial high, the person driving the Ferrari has not embraced, faced and felt their fear-pain emotions, sitting within their being.

Can you see why super happy people who acquire large sums of money advise you to follow your passion-fun-love?

RB and RB

I model some of what I do on the approach of happy billionaire Richard Branson. Ryan Biddulph. Richard Branson. 2 RB’s.

Picture break, before we proceed. Here I am in my current location of Oman.

Like happy billionaires, Dicky B followed his passion – not profits – and surrounded himself with smart, heart-centered folks, to build his fortune, putting his focus on serving people, not chasing profits.

I do the same, following my blogging passion and surrounding myself with heart-centered folks like Vishwajeet of Technobyet and Cori of Cori Writer.  Both are warm, generous, supportive souls who, with me, form a sort of blogging mastermind as we lift each other up, higher and higher.

Do you honestly think I could reach out and cyber hug these folks if my hands were firmly in my pockets, obsessing over money?

My friend and highly successful blogger Alonzo Pichardo runs a first rate podcast nabbing hundreds of thousands of listens. Do you genuinely believe he could register so many listens if he obsessed over money? He focuses on kindly helping me and other human beings. Profits follow passion, if you do not panic. Profits follow passion, eventually. Maybe not today, tomorrow, or next year, but profits eventually arrive. But you need to do something you love, serve people and allow the money to take care of itself, to build a thriving blogging business while enjoying the ride.

The Solution

Feel your fear-pain now, before setting a 6 or 7 figure money goal, my Young Blogging Padawans. Clear the fear. After clearing the fear-pain, most of the time, you will not set money goals because loving people focus almost exclusively on serving people aka giving, not grabbing money aka getting.

Do not foolishly believe numbers on a screen bring happiness, fun or freedom on a permanent basis. Change is constant. Money may pile up in your bank account but feelings in your body need facing, embracing and releasing to create lasting happiness.

Sweet bonus; if you deal with your fears, and feel better, making money gets easier and easier. All money problems/blocks root themselves in fear. Feel the fear, clear it and you patiently follow your passion, practice, create and connect your way to a full time income through blogging.
