Apple announced its new News+ subscription service earlier this year alongside Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade. News+ launched in March in the United States.
Now the subscription service is finally coming to the UK, with Apple confirming that iPhone, iPad and MacBook users can access it on this side of the pond.
Apple News+ brings together over 150 popular publications into a curated experience within the Apple News app. It’s a bit like Apple Music, but for magazines. So, Apple will recommend individual articles within issues that it thinks will appeal to you.
News+ includes titles like Cosmopolitan UK, Elle UK, Esquire UK, FourFourTwo, Empire, Cyclist, and Grazia, as well as several US newspapers, magazines and digital outlets including The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Businessweek, National Geographic, Rolling Stone, Vox and more.
Apple says subscribers can enjoy cover to cover access to their favourite magazines and receive notifications when a new issue of a favourite publication is available. You can also download issues for offline reading on the train to work, a long flight, or on a beach.
Apple News+ also includes collections of articles and issues curated by its team of editors, who offer personalised recommendations to readers.
“Apple News+ offers hundreds of the world’s most popular publications, all discoverable through personalised and curated recommendations,” said Lauren Kern, editor-in-chief of Apple News.
“The quality of the journalism, the beautiful photography, the stunning live covers and custom-designed articles in this collection are second to none. We think readers in the UK will be delighted with the offering, and we are proud to support the work of our newest publisher partners.”
Apple News+ is available from today in the UK for £9.99 a month.
If you’d like to try before you buy, you can sign up for a free one-month trial. The paid-for plan will automatically renew after the trial ends.
Apple News+ in the UK is supported on iOS 12.2 or macOS 10.14.4 or newer, so you’ll need to make sure your device is running at least that version of its software.
The news of Apple News+ comes a few weeks after the firm also released its new Arcade gaming service.
For 4.99 per month, users get unlimited access to the entire catalogue of over 100 new exclusive games all playable across iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac and Apple TV.
Unlike News+, which is available on older operating systems, iPhone owners will need to be running at least iOS 13 to access Apple Arcade. Find out all the best iOS 13 features before you upgrade.
“We are so excited to launch Apple Arcade on the App Store. A curated selection of over 100 new and exclusive games from many of the most innovative game developers in the world is the perfect complement to the App Store’s existing massive catalog of games,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
“We think customers of all ages are going to be delighted that a single subscription gives the whole family unlimited access to the full catalogue of amazing Apple Arcade games, all without any ads or additional purchases, while knowing every game must meet Apple’s high privacy standards.”
