The upcoming Battle of the Quants – BIG DATA will be held on October 15th at the Asia Society Hong Kong with a pre-event cocktail reception in Tai Kwun on October 14th.
How many years has it been going?
The Battle of the Quants is in its fourteenth year. We have held events all over the world including New York London, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Frankfurt.
What was the inspiration to start it?
In our fourteenth year of hosting the leading quantitative event worldwide, the Battle of the Quants, has become the definitive event in the quantitative space for investors, managers and data buyers looking for key industry influencers, decision makers and investment opportunities. When the Battle of the Quants began there were many financial conferences however none devoted purely to quants and systematic trading. As quants have gained more traction the event has grown exponentially.

What exciting things can people look forward to?
The Battle of the Quants curates carefully selected systematic investors and managers leading the way into the new world of Artificial Intelligence, Data Sets, Machine Learning, Digital Assets, Blockchain and Quantum Computing. Careful consideration has been given to include issues confronting investors and traders participating in this complex and exciting world.
What opportunities are on offer for those attending?
Presentations and panel discussions throughout the day include such topics as “How Today’s Successful Quant Managers are Adapting to Unpredictable Markets”, “Quantitative Trading in the New World of Digital Assets” and “The Promise of Quantum Computing; what’s Exciting about Google Quantum Supremacy”.
Who will be speaking?
Attendees include HNWI’s, Family Offices, FoF’s, Institutional Investors, Systematic Hedge Fund Managers, Data Providers and Data Buyers. On the agenda this year we have Andrea Nardon at Sarasin, Sajjad Qasmi at the CPP Investment Board, Steven Crewe at Fulcrum, Raphael Douady at the University of Paris, Pantheon-Sorbonne as well as many other esteemed individuals.
What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?
If you are interested in getting exposure for your fund or interested in showcasing your data sets to prospective data buyers we have a breakfast component which facilitates roundtable ‘speed-dating’ meetings over a 1½ period. The Capital Introduction is for Quant Hedge Fund Managers that would like to present their fund to potential investors investing in quantitative strategies and the Data Introduction Breakfast is where data providers showcase their data sets to prospective data buyers. All attendees have been pre-qualified and carefully reviewed and have either already bought data sets or are planning to purchase structured and/or unstructured data sets.
Bartt Kellermann, CEO & Founder, is well known in the quant space and knows many of the attendees on a personal level therefore the Battle of the Quants is an incredible networking event and Bartt is able to do warm introductions for many attendees. I would advise anyone coming to take full advantage of the networking opportunities which include not only the breakfast but a pre and post cocktail receptions, coffee breaks and luncheon.
