A Small Business Assistance Center opened in Veneta inside Veneta-Fern Ridge Chamber of Commerce at 24949 Highway 126. The nonprofit center offers computers, a printer and a conference room for entrepreneurs at an affordable rate. The SBAC has partnered with business advisors and mentors from RAIN Eugene, Community LendingWorks and Lane Community College SBDC to offer workshops, classes and free advice. Springfield commercial print company QSL Print Communications received certification from the Long Tom Watershed Council as a Trout Friendly Landscape project. The company replanted an existing swale, replaced soils, installed check dams and added irrigation to mitigate downstream impact.

West Coast Dog and Cat Rescue is celebrating it’s 10-year anniversary with a new name, Cat Rescue and Adoption Network. The all-volunteer, non-profit, no-kill group was founded in 2007 and focuses on abandoned and neglected cats. Each cat is housed with a foster family to be evaluated and receive medical care, vaccinations and microchip.
