CHAMBER NEWS: ‘Serving Alcohol Responsibly’ Training in February

On Thursday, February 27, the Town of Pagosa Springs and the Chamber of Commerce will co-host a ‘Serving Alcohol More Responsibly’ class. While this is not T.I.P.S. training, this class is conducted by a state of Colorado Liquor Enforcement investigator, Chris Clements. The class is offered free to all of our restaurant and liquor establishments — their owners and employees, non-profit agency event planners and volunteers, and basically anyone interested in learning how to serve alcohol more safely.

The class will cover topics such as responsible server training (again, this is not TIPS certification), hours of operation for serving alcohol, detecting fake IDs, overserving, criminal and civil liability for a business owner and servers, donated alcohol, purchasing alcohol, alcohol storage and more. Towards the end of the class, Chris will focus on Special Events permits and more. The class is free and will be held at the Ross Aragon Community Center in the South Conference room from 2 to 4pm. Chris is also willing to stay longer should there be more interest and questions.

Proof of attendance indicating staff or volunteers having received some kind of serving alcohol safely training is important for business and special event insurance coverage. While we want everyone to have fun at our establishments and events, we also want to minimize our liability and make sure that people are behaving responsibly when consuming alcohol. We would appreciate people RSVPing for the class so that we can set up the room for the correct number of people. Please RSVP to Rick Artis at the Chamber at [email protected] or call 970-264-2360.

Walk-ins will be accommodated on a space-available basis.

Website Tips for 2020
What attracts people to your website? How do people navigate your website – it is easy or difficult? What can you do to make your website more interactive? These topics and more will be discussed at the March “Website Tips for 2020” training series. Curtis Nehring, owner of Code by Curtis will be the guest trainer for this informative short class. The class will be held from 8 – 9am on Tuesday, March 3 at the Chamber of Commerce conference room. A light breakfast will also be served. The cost of the class is $25 for chamber members and $30 for non-members.

We hear a lot about search engine optimization and visitors to your website. What’s the difference? What do each look for? What kinds of changes can you make to your website to have it be more interactive and keep people on it longer? There will be time for questions and answers. Space is limited, so register now for the class at www.pagosachamber.com/events. Click to the month of March and then click on the date of the class to register. Now is the time of year to be working ON your business and tweaking business marketing plans like your website, print, radio and digital ads and community outreach.

For more information about the class, contact Hilarie Strong, Chamber Communications Coordinator at 264-2360.
