Christiana Danielle and Shana Halligan joined together on a solid and different rendition of Kings Of Leon’s “Use Somebody” in their battle on The Voice. Shawn Mendes served as the adviser for the two in their battle.
Adam Levine said there is something draws him in to how Christiana performs. Adam called Shana an unique singer. Kelly Clarkson said it was an interesting pair. Kelly said you don’t get these type of performances at award shows. Blake Shelton said there is something endearing about Christiana. Blake said Shana put a spell on him. Alicia Keys loved this version of the song and how they could deconstruct it and take it to a different place. Alicia said congrats to both on their performance.
Alicia chose Christiana as the winner of the battle.
Shana’s dad, Dick Halligan, was a founding member of the Grammy Award-winning jazz-rock band Blood, Sweat & Tears. Inspired by her dad, Shana was always drawn to music but made strides to establish herself as an artist independent of her father’s success. Shana helped form the band Bitter:Sweet, which gained a lot of clout in the indie scene from 2005 to 2010, but unfortunately dissolved right on the cusp of mainstream success. Shana now lives in Los Angeles, where she takes care of her 2-year-old son, Otis, and plays shows in the area.
Christiana engaged in many musical opportunities within her community, including singing in church, hospitals, youth centers and facilities for the elderly. Music was an integral part of her life, but all that came to a halt when a mysterious throat virus resulted in emergency surgery. Christiana was told she would never sing again. Vowing to recover, Christiana miraculously regained her voice and devoted her life to giving back through music. Recently earning a degree in social work, Christiana strives to bring awareness to mental health issues and the power of music to underserved communities.

The four-time Emmy Award-winning “The Voice” returns with the strongest vocalists from across the country invited to compete in the blockbuster vocal competition show’s new season. Superstar singer-songwriter Clarkson makes her debut as a coach this season, with Season 12-winning coach and musical icon Keys taking a red chair alongside the show’s returning coaches, Levine and Shelton, and host Carson Daly.
Once the teams are set, the battle is on.
The coaches dedicate themselves to developing their teams of artists, giving them advice and sharing the secrets of their success, along with help from their celebrity advisers. During the battle rounds, the coaches pit two of their own team members against each other to sing the same song together in front of a studio audience. After the vocal battle, the coach must choose which of his or her singers will advance to the next round of competition, while the losing artist is available to be stolen by another coach. Each coach has two steals available during the battle rounds.
