Another exciting WordCamp happens next weekend, August 4-6, 2017 at the University of Minnesota. With over 40 educational and motivational panels, seminars, and other activities on the schedule, WordCamp Minneapolis/St. Paul looks impressive. Over 400 people are expected to attend this event, which first began in 2010 as WordCamp Minneapolis. This is the first year that St. Paul is included.
WebDevStudios (WDS) Backend Developer, Jeremy Ward, is a volunteer organizer. He gave us the inside scoop and said attendees should look forward to the following:
- Board games (Board games? Yes! Board games!)
- A broad variety of sessions from speakers local to Minnesota and from around the neighboring region
- Two after-parties (one with adult beverages, one without)
- Training Days, a Contributor Day, and a Happiness Bar
WordCamp attendees will also get the opportunity to mingle with other WDS-ers. Not only will Jeremy be in attendance, so will Senior Backend Developer, Justin Foell (who is volunteering at the event), and Backend Developer, Gary Kovar, as he will be presenting “Cowboy Coding – Best Practices.”
“We all know that cowboy coding is wrong, but sometimes external conditions dictate that we as devs must do something irresponsible or stupid,” Gary told Jeremy in an interview published at the WordCamp Minneapolis/St. Paul website. “Since we all do it (and don’t admit to it), I want to share some ideas I’ve had to at least ‘be dumb’ in a safe way.”
Other educational topics on the bill include “Who Is Your User? Find Your Audience and Get to Know Them,” “Why A11y?,” and “WordPress Marketing Automation.” The full schedule can be found here.
If you can’t make the event, keep up with the action by following @WordCampMpls and #wcmsp on Twitter. The next WordCamp WDS is attending is WordCamp Sacramento, September 16-17. Keep up with our whereabouts by visiting the WDS Gives Back page.
