While drones were previously only owned by professional filmographers, they’re now popular devices amongst the general public.
If you own a drone, you might be tempted to spruce it up with additional items, but the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has warned against this.
In a new update , the FAA has warned that it’s illegal to operate a drone with a dangerous weapon.
The update reads: “Perhaps you’ve seen online photos and videos of drones with attached guns, bombs, fireworks , flamethrowers, and other dangerous items.
“Do not consider attaching any items such as these to a drone because operating a drone with such an item may result in significant harm to a person and to your bank account.”
Adding such weapons to your drone is not only dangerous, but can also land you with a hefty fine, according to the FAA.
It added: “Operators are subject to civil penalties up to $25,000 [£20,000] for each violation, unless the operator has received specific authorisation from the Administrator of the FAA to conduct the operation.”

The FAA’s warning comes just one month after a US tech firm started selling a drone with a flamethrower attached, dubbed the Throwflame TF-19 Wasp .
The terrifying drone has a 25ft range and can blast fire out for 100 seconds at a time.
While Throwflame claims that the attachment is ‘not considered a weapon’, the FAA’s warning suggests otherwise.
