Facebook has launched a dating service and we’re too childish not to make an obvious joke about Zuck-buddies.

The social network announced the new service in a blogpost published this afternoon.

It said dating will be be a ‘separate, opt-in experience’ you will have to enable.

Once you indicated you’re down to date, you will be thrown into the usual Tinder-style maelstrom of hot, lukewarm and downright chilly prospective partners.

Facebook will never match you with people you’re already friends with and will not publicise your activity, meaning you can canoodle away without fear of your secrets being exposed.

Erin Egan, VP and chief privacy officer, said: ‘People use Facebook to connect with friends and meet new ones, and many people already use Facebook to start relationships.

‘That’s why we built Facebook Dating to help people find people they may want to date.

‘Privacy is particularly important when it comes to dating, so we consulted with experts in privacy and consumer protection and embedded privacy protections into the core of Facebook Dating.’
