Facebook Messenger’s ‘Year in Review’ [Infographic]

Facebook Messenger has seen a raft of changes throughout 2017. Among them, we’ve seen the introduction of Messenger Day, the expansion of Messenger ads, the introduction of group video chat and visual effects, and the continued development of Messenger bots.

What was once a simple platform for messaging has now become much more, and with 1.3 billion users, it looks set to remain a prominent force for some time.

But for Facebook to truly succeed with Messenger, they need to widen the app’s use case, to get people to see the platform as more than just an evolution of SMS.

In line with this, Facebook has released a new infographic which looks at some of the key trends and changes on Messenger over the past year. Among them are:

  • The increase in video chat
  • The expansion of visual messaging
  • The rise in Messenger groups

You’ll notice that all of these key trends relate to doing more with Messenger, on expanding the possibilities of what users can do. In order for Facebook to convert Messenger into the all-in-one business and personal platform they want, this, as noted, is the perception they need to cultivate.
