Facebook’s About To Start Charging You.  Here’s How To Beat The Paywall.

They say all good things come to an end at some point.  And that may be the case with news articles on Facebook.  But I’ve got a little secret that will help you beat the system.  You’ll find that below.

Now before everyone freaks out – the social media giant isn’t about to start charging you to log in and see who is pregnant and where the best new restaurant is.  But they ARE talking about creating a subscription product for you to consume content from many newspapers and digital publishers.  AKA the articles you find through Facebook.

There’s a guy by the name of Campbell Brown who runs all “new partnership business” for Facebook.  And he said that many media outlets have been asking for a subscription product, so they’re planning on delivering to a small number of publishers as a test-run of sorts.

Here’s how it would work.

Facebook users would get to view up to 10 articles per month for free.  After that, they’d hit a paywall where you’d have to fork over cash to keep reading.

One of the benefits from publishers, beyond the cash (if anyone is willing to pay), will be access to all subscriber data (aka tons of information about you).  Apparently among the publishers in talks with Facebook are The New York Times, Tronc, Hearst, The Economist, Germany’s Bild, and the U.K.’s Telegraph.

Now many publishers already have paywalls –– you’ve probably seen it.  You click on an article and the media company wants you to pay.  But do you want to know what they want just as much?  Search engine optimization.  They want Google to find and share more of their content.

And therein lies the trick to getting the “paid” content for “free” –– that NONE of them want you to know about.

Hit a paywall?  Copy the title of the article and paste it into Google.  In most cases, the first link that comes up will be the article and you’ll be able to click and read it without having to pay to do so.  That’s because the only way for Google to index and read content is to have some of it NOT behind that wall.

Nobody else is going to tell you this …so be a good friend and share this secret with all of your friends, will ya?
