Flowers, notes left in Chatswood alley for Hee Kyung Choi

A handwritten note with the message “I don’t think I looked after you as much as I could have” is among a number of tributes and flowers left in the Chatswood alley where a woman’s body was found in the early hours of Monday morning.

Words of hope and regret adorned the card left in memory of Hee Kyung Choi, 34, who is believed to have died after falling from a high-rise apartment building on Brown Street, Chatswood where she lived.

“Sincerely hope you can rest in a good place. I don’t think I looked after you as much as I could have … sorry for that,” read one card, translated into English from Korean.

“Sorry I couldn’t give you more interest or looked after you more. Rest in peace.”

Ms Choi’s body was discovered by a passerby about 6.30am on Monday.

Police are yet to confirm the exact circumstances of her death, but it is understood her injuries were consistent with having fallen from a height.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Since 2014, Ms Choi was an employee of ANZ bank, most recently working as a business bank manager. Before that, she held a role as a home and investment lending manager.

While it is understood Ms Choi left the bank earlier this year, ANZ has extended its sympathies and condolences to her family and friends.

On Monday, half an hour after Ms Choi’s body was found, her boyfriend June Oh Seo was engaged in a tense rooftop stand-off, after perching on the edge of a balcony roof on the 27th floor of the apartment building.

In obvious distress, Mr Seo, 37, spent more than 12 hours on the roof’s edge, at times dangling his legs off the side, and staring down at a crime scene tent concealing Ms Choi’s body below.

He was safely removed from the building shortly after 7pm and was later arrested and charged with a domestic violence-related assault occasioning actual bodily harm between 4.30am and 4.35am on Monday.

Mr Seo did not appear in Hornsby Local Court on Tuesday and did not apply for bail.

He was represented by a Legal Aid solicitor who requested an adjournment to October 20.

Magistrate Daniel Reiss granted the adjournment, adding that there “may or may not be further charges by then, I gather”.

Mr Seo will appear at Hornsby Local Court via audio-visual link with the assistance of a Korean interpreter.
