Danny Sullivan from Google said Google “probably will” pre-announce future Google core updates. He said this on Twitter when asked if Google will “be pre-announcing broad core updates again?”
I suspect Google decided to go this route after we, the SEO community, named past core updates names like Florida 2 or Fred or Phantom or other names. Google rather control what the SEO or webmaster community is calling its updates rather us making up names that might not be flattering towards Google. Maybe like the mobilegeddon that pre-Google Danny Sullivan ironically named the Google mobile friendly update – geddon vs friendly. 🙂
Here are the tweets:
We probably will. But you won’t be able to “fix” anything. Read our tweets on this that detail sites that drop aren’t “broken” and focus on quality that might help regain relative standing isn’t an overnight change.

Danny also added the bit that there is no fix – sorry fellas.
