From Alpha to Pie, Google named its Android versions with several confectioners. Now it decided to go just with the version number and nothing else, just like Apple’s iOS trend.
If you think Google’s unable to think sweet names with the letter “Q“, then it’s your fault. In an interview with 9to5 Google, the VP of product from Google has revealed the facts behind Google going with the name “Android 10“. Even after brainstorming, names like Quindim and Queens cake were rejected and proceeded to go with just, “Android 10“. Samat said, “One piece of feedback we’ve gotten from users over the years is that the dessert names are not universally understood in different cultures and different languages. Food tends to sometimes be a local thing.”
Sounds of alphabets like “L” and “R” are not available in some languages, so Google forethought of this and decided to stop this trend to avoid confusion later. With 2.5B active users, Google decides to name their new version which is equally understandable by everyone. This ends the favorite guessing game in Twitterati!
