HMD Global announces two new phones coming to Australia, the Nokia 7.2 and Nokia 2720 Flip – Ausdroid

HMD Global are continually updating and upgrading their phones, so much so that it is often difficult to keep up with their offerings. Today they have announced that two more Nokia phones are on their way Downunder — the Nokia 7.2 and the Nokia 2720 Flip.

Nokia 7.2

The Nokia 7.2 is an imaging powerhouse with a triple rear camera Zeiss setup. It has a 48MP main camera, 5MP depth sensing camera and an 8MP wide-angled camera. The front is a massive 20MP camera with Qaud Pixel technology (4 pixels combined into one to create a brighter image).

Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, 4GB of RAM and 64/128GB of onboard storage it should be a great mid-range device. The display is a 6.3-inch FHD+ display with a waterdrop notch for the front facing camera.

The body of the phone is a polymer composite which is apparently twice as strong as polycarbonate but half the weight. The rear is finished in a “light-diffusing satin glass finish” in Cyan Green, Charcoal and Ice.

Running Android 9.0 at the moment it is apparently Android 10 ready and will be updated very soon and will continue to be for three years. The 128GB storage dual-SIM version will be available in all three colours for $549 at Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi and other select retailers from tomorrow, the 3rd October. A 64GB Charcoal variant will be available exclusively from Telstra “soon”.

Nokia 2720 Flip

The Nokia 2720 Flip is another one of Nokia’s blast from the past that they have been releasing for a few years now. The Flip phone works the same way its inspiration did — flip open to answer call and close it to hang up.

There are two displays onboard with a 1.3-inch external display and a 2.8-inch main display on the inside. There is of course the tactile keypad with big buttons (including a Google Assistant button) and a battery that lasts a damn impressive 28 days on standby.

The specs, well, do they really matter? SD205, 512MB RAM and 4GB storage. There is a 2MP rear camera but let’s face it this phone is either not for use as a primary phone or for those who just want to take and make phone calls only. It is 4G compatible though which will allow some data use and storage onto that small volume. There is no Android anywhere near this with KaiOS installed instead.

The Nokia 2720 Flip will be available in Ocean Black from Vodafone from today along with Harvey Norman and other retailers from Thursday 3rd October for just $149.

With yet another decent mid-range offering along with a funky old school flip phone Nokia have even more options in the market for consumers and in the end that’s a great thing for everyone.

If you are in the market for something in this price range be sure to check them out as they are possibly the best supported phones on the market today.
