Some people say I am a picky blogger when it comes to accepting guest posts.
I say I just have clarity in accepting a high standard of guest post after I gave a decade of my life to blogging.
See the difference in perspective from a struggling, fear-driven blogger versus a confident, clear, established pro blogger who gave a decade of their life to mastering their craft?
I wrote millions of words during my online career. I became a skilled writer after writing millions of words.
I also promoted other bloggers freely for many years of my life and became connected with pros through my generosity.
If you write millions of words and become a connected blogger due to your generosity you may just land a guest post on Blogging From Paradise yourself but only because you paid your dues and spent a decade of your life mastering your blogging skills.
Pickiness in Other Professions
If you spend 3 months practicing basketball and call the Golden State Warriors front office asking for a try out, and if the front office guy or gal laughs you off of the phone because you make 1 out of 10 shots but expect to make a pro team, are the Golden State Warriors front office folks “picky”?
Of course not!
Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are 4 of the best players on earth, each spending decades of their lives practicing, honing their basketball skills and largely giving their lives to basketball, to be one of the 300 plus basketball players on earth in the NBA, and to be elite level players able to make the Golden State Warriors team.
If you gave a half-assed 3 months to practicing basketball a little bit and complain about the Warriors being picky in turning you down, of course you look like an absolute buffoon. But why complain about an established pro blogger with an elite blog who appears to be picky when they are simply the Golden State Warriors and you are a newbie blogger who’s paid zero dues, barely writing and not networking, like the guy or gal who barely practiced writing?

Most bloggers moan about picky standards but are crap writers. Improve your writing skills and it gets easier and easier to land guest posts on rocking blogs.
Write, and write some more.
Picky standards become easy standards.
Create and Connect
Being a skilled writer is not enough.
I need to see if a blogger is connected before accepting their guest post, because if you are not connected, or not a known commodity, it’s tough to trust you. You haven’t been vetted yet, and you likely aren’t a generous, authentic, genuine blogger who’d vibe with my community.
I accepted a guest post from a skilled but non-connected blogger once. He never responded to any comments. After I emailed him letting him know I pulled his link he complained, noting he was on vacation. Of course, if he were connected and established I’d give him leeway but knowing he was a Blogging Lone Wolf alerted me to his selfish motives.
Publish helpful content to your blog persistently.
Promote other bloggers to build your friend network.
Create and connect, practice your writing skills and forget picky guest posting standards; you’ll need a baseball bat to keep fellow blogging buddies off of you with all of the guest post invites flowing your way.
