This morning I received an email from someone wanting to place a health insurance related guest post on my blog.
I help bloggers retire to a life of island hopping by sharing smart blogging tips.
How many of my readers are specifically interested in health insurance, and subscribed to my blog to get health insurance tips?
Out of the 60,000 plus followers of Blogging From Paradise, that number would be: zero.
This kindly but lost blogger is likely wasting hours, days and weeks of their time trying to submit this guest post to blogs other than health insurance blogs.
You are always penalized when you stray off topic.
Many bloggers cover multiple niches on their blogs.
Unless you have god-like talents or 36 hours a day to work with, the specialist will become successful 100 times more quickly than you.
Always stay on topic.
Increase your blog traffic.
Here’s why.
Why This Works
This concept of always staying on topic works because you live in a world of specialists.
Do you want law advice? You go to a lawyer.
Do you want medical help? You go to a doctor.
Do you need something delivered? You go to a courier.
Specialists reign. Life-wise, business-wise.
Generalists? Not so much.
Always staying on topic both on your blog and by choosing to only submit guest posts to blogs related to your niche puts the concept of specialization to work for you.
Example; if you cover 1 niche day in and day out, over months then years, bloggers will refer their readers to you as a specialist, boosting your blog traffic in the process.
You become a known commodity, an authority, all because you covered 1 topic on your blog, through your guest posts and because you only commented on top blogs from your niche.
Hang where your readers hang. Help your specific, ideal reader through every post.
Increase your blog traffic.
Be Consistent
Be consistent. Cover your niche through your blog.
Submit guest posts only to blogs 100% aligned with your blog.
Being consistent is the easiest way to develop a name in your niche and to also steadily increase your blog traffic.
Folks will come to know you as a go to guy or gal because you patiently programmed them to see you as a go to guy or gal.
Where your attention and energy goes, grows, and you choose where to put your attention and energy.
Get Known for Doing 1 Thing Well
Gain a rep for doing 1 thing well.
Draw expert-status traffic to you.
Darren Rowse knows blogging inside out. He and his guest bloggers demonstrate this at Pro Blogger.
Since he is an authority in the blogging tips niche he just drove a bit more traffic through this blog post.
See how that works?
I thought of an expert in a specific niche. Darren came to mind in the blogging tips niche. Think of how many bloggers and entrepreneurs around the world are referencing Darren as a blogging tips guy to know today? That’s a lot of traffic.
Get known for doing 1 thing well. Stay on topic.
Draw Like-Minded People to You
Like-minded folks who dig your blog will find you if you stay on topic.
Readers will dig your expertise in a certain area. Said readers promote you to friends who they know would appreciate your expertise. More traffic. More readers.
Your presence expands. All because you chose to do 1 thing regularly so you did that 1 thing well.
Simple concept, right?
Expand your presence like wildfire through the art of specialization. Do 1 thing well. Do not become a dreaded generalist, confusing your readers at every turn.
Just stick to 1 topic, give readers a simple, clear expectation and said readers gladly share your content with their audiences, boosting your blog traffic over the long haul.
