Hulu Canceling Michelle Wolf’s Standup Special After Sarah Huckabee Sanders Jokes Is Fake News

Hulu canceling Michelle Wolf’s standup special after her jokes at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner about Sarah Huckabee Sanders is fake news. There is no truth that the former contributor and writer for The Daily Show with Trevor Noah had lost out on a deal with the subscription video on demand service as a result of her jokes about President Donald Trump’s administration.

Wolf’s performance, in particular the Sanders material, sparked outrage from conservatives and left some in the Washington media questioning the event’s mood. Wolf has since fired back at her critics.

Where did this fake news originate? The Daily World Update published the fake news article on April 29, 2018, reporting that Wolf’s standup special had been cancelled with Hulu because of her recent brutal comedic take given at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. You can read the fake news below.

Michelle Wolf was hoping to use the White House Correspondents’ Dinner to promote her sure-to-be-terrible standup special due to be released on Hulu soon, but her plan backfired magnificently when she attacked White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ looks.

Wolf compared Sanders to the monstrously ugly Aunt Lydia on the anti-Christian show The Handmaid’s Tale and said that the Press Secretary’s eyes were “smoky” in appearance — a reference to liberals’ claim that her face is (as Bill Maher put it) “as lopsided as a half-weighted fishing lure.”

A statement put out by Hulu President Irwin R. Fletcher explains that “in light of recent remarks made by Michelle Wolf, we have elected to cancel the standup special” — a huge blow to the former Daily Show writer’s ego and income.

However, there is no truth to the above story. What is the problem with the story to make it false? For one thing, there is no legitimate news coverage of this story. Second, Hulu’s president is not “Irwin R. Fletcher” but rather Randy Freer is the company’s CEO. Third, Wolf does not have a deal with Hulu but rather with Netflix. Wolf has a new variety-sketch series coming to Netflix, The Break. Check the trailer below.

Finally, and most importantly, Daily World Update carries the following disclaimer on its website:

America’s Last Line of Defense is a whimsical playland of conservative satire.

Before you complain and decide satire is synonymous with “comedy”:

sat·ire
ˈsaˌtī(ə)r
noun
The use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.

Here are some examples of people sharing the fake news on social media.

Trump responded to Wolf’s performance by saying she had “bombed,“ and that the dinner was a “very big, boring bust.” You can judge for yourself about the jokes by watching the video below.

What did you think of the fake news that Wolf’s standup special was cancelled by Hulu as a result of her jokes made at the expense of Trump’s administration? Did you believe the fake news or see people sharing it falsely on social media? Let us know in the comments section.
