The 25-year-old Korean actor, who is on his first Philippine visit, also says he’s humbled by the thought that he’s considered as an ‘international star’
MANILA, Philippines – Korean actor Seo Kang-jun is more excited than nervous to meet his Filipino fans for the first time.
The Are You Human Too and The Third Charm actor is in town – his first time in the Philippines – for a one-night-only fan meet on Saturday, May 25, at the New Frontier Theater (formerly KIA Theatre).
Many fans may also know him for his breakout role as Baek In-ho in Korean drama Cheese in the Trap. The 25-year-old actor, however, doesn’t think he’s an international star yet.
“In all honesty, I don’t think myself as an international star yet, but I think that title really humbles me,” Kang-jun said in Korean during a press conference on Friday, May 24.
He continued: “I just really want to thank every one of you [for considering] me an international star, and such title motivates me to do my best in every project possible and to portray and give you guys different aspects and different sides of me through the upcoming projects.”
When asked what drew international fans to him and Korean dramas in general, Kang-jun thinks it’s all about the mindset when producing these dramas.
“I think a great majority of the reason…is because we always go into the mindset of wanting to please our international fans as well. It’s no longer just for the Korean fans for us. It’s also for the Filipino fans and other international fans, and we always work with that sort of responsibility,” he said.
But if his life were turned into a movie, what genre would Kang-jun’s biopic fall under?
“I’m not really sure but if we had to put in what would be a documentary – because I don’t think my life is a horror material exactly – I think it would be about a guy who grew up trying his best to make it in the society, became an actor, loved what he was doing, somehow growing into the industry, and leaving a mark eventually,” he answered.
Other dramas
Kang-jun will be back on the small screen with upcoming thriller Watcher. He described his character Kim Young-goon as someone “who had to overcome hardships in life and sort of portray growth in his life.”
“I’m very honored to be working with very respected Korean artists as well, and I hope I could provide you with a good thriller soon,” he added.
Are You Human Too, meanwhile, will air on GMA7 starting May 27. Kang-jun said it’s been a while since he filmed this drama, and that he was both excited and nervous when he learned it will be aired in the Philippines.
“I really just want to give the Philippine fans the best project possible so I’m very excited on how the feedback’s going to be. The series had a character where he acted two roles, it had sci-fi genre, it also had a bit of rom-com, and also very political, but mostly I think I just want the Filipino fans to be able to relate to the character as it has a lot of human aspect to it that all of us can relate to,” he said in Korean.
Kang-jun said he’s honored to have an opportunity to meet his Filipino fans and be able to connect with them, talk to them, and relate with them not just as an artist but also as a human being. – Rappler.com
