ONLINE COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST
The American Civil Liberties Union of Washington (ACLU-WA) is seeking an Online
Communications Specialist. The Online Communications Specialist is directly supervised by the Communications Director and is responsible for our online communications strategy, execution, and evaluation. This includes management of our website content, e-mail advocacy and marketing efforts, and social media presence.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with communications and program staff to identify high-impact
opportunities to increase the visibility of our advocacy, programmatic and legislative
work, and to generate social media audience, email list, and fundraising growth. Execute
campaigns and leverage insights from analytics to inform strategic planning. - Collaborate on the development of strategic communications plans.
- Plan and execute email activism and marketing campaigns. Collaborate with the ACLU
national office on email calendar and collaborative campaigns. - Maintain ACLU-WA’s presence and profiles across primary social media channels. Write
and edit social posts and campaign content; help maintain the publishing calendar and schedule posts. Develop advertising campaigns and content for Facebook, Instagram,
and Twitter. - Manage content on the ACLU-WA website and related microsites. Create, post, remove,
and update content; manage a content review calendar and collaborate on an editorial
calendar. Work with communications and program staff to generate and promote new
content to further organizational priorities and to take advantage of opportunities. - Test and improve website search engine optimization (SEO) and user experience.
Evaluate and edit content and user experience for SEO. - Produce and publish off-hours content for special events or breaking news moments.
- Track and monitor the success of social media and online engagement initiatives.
Develop reports and narrative for staff on ACLU-WA’s online communications metrics
and analytics. - Serve as project specialist and primary point of contact for online communications
vendors, developers, and volunteers.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of three years’ related experience in digital communications is required.
- Experience writing and editing persuasive online content; familiarity with a broad range
of web, SEO, e-mail marketing, and social media strategies. - Experience with Drupal or another CMS, enterprise e-mail marketing tools, and social
media management and analytics tools. - Experience in planning and executing online advocacy campaigns.
- Experience working with and communicating to diverse constituencies.
- Excellent verbal, writing and interpersonal communications skills; strong attention to
detail, ability to write and deliver work product under deadlines, and commitment to
high quality standards. - Experience creating and editing multimedia content using Adobe Creative Suite.
- Ability to learn new platforms and adapt quickly to changing trends in online
communication. - Ability to supervise volunteers and work cooperatively with others.
- A commitment to advance racial justice, both internally in our organization and

- Proficiency in a language other than English spoken by the communities we serve is a
plus (examples are Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Somali, Arabic, Tagalog, and
others).

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary is based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include three weeks of vacation to start, medical and disability insurance, a retirement plan, and an ORCA card.
