Justin Kilgore joined with Molly Stevens for their Voice battle on a performance of “Burning House” by Cam. Kelly Clarkson picked Justin as the winner of the battle.

Kelly said both are so emotional and that they both sound vulnerable. Kelly said Molly has an indigo girl greatness. Kelly believed that Justin has an untapped well waiting to burst out.

Alicia Keys said there was a real tenderness between the two and you could see their friendship. Alicia said Justin had a warmth and passion but she leaned toward Molly. Adam Levine said their feelings were real and emotions were real. Adam thanked them for making him feel. He loved that they had a connection. Adam said he would go with Justin but that no one can sing like Molly.

Blake Shelton noted that he turned his chair for both of them. Blake said Justin’s voice fit a little better in this song. Blake said it was a new crazy sound coming out of Molly with her raspy voice.

Growing up in a small town, Justin felt the need to suppress his sexuality, and in turn, he didn’t feel that he could pursue his love for country music unless he was hiding who he really was. In his sophomore year, he made the difficult yet precedent-setting decision to be the first male cheerleader in his town. Justin came out at 19 and moved to Austin soon after to pursue music full-time, but he was still struggling to chase his true musical passions, which led him to try pop/EDM music. Feeling discouraged, Justin ended up quitting music altogether. But when an opportunity to audition for “The Voice” came up, he could not ignore his love for country music and knew this was his chance to be the artist he was meant to be.

Molly grew up singing on her grandfather’s radio and TV show. For almost 10 years, she performed alongside her grandfather, Jimmy Waters, who was a well-known Baptist preacher. After college, Molly overcame a personal struggle and finally told her parents that she is gay. She moved to Nashville to pursue music but feared a label would never sign her because of her sexuality. After gaining some musical acclaim, Molly felt comfortable coming out and was embraced by the community. She now lives in Raleigh with her fiancée, Ashlee, and gigs all around the Southeast.
