This is the new Aventador SVJ (Superveloce Jota), the ultimate V12 Lambo and for the time being the fastest production car around the Nurburgring. Just unveiled at the Monterey car week, Lamborghini’s new car focuses on aerodynamics, lightweight construction and increased power…….OH and a huge rear wing……..as if it didn’t stand out enough already.
Staying with Lamborghini tradition it sticks with a 6.5 liter V12 to make it the ultimate Aventador, which is good for 759 hp @ 8,500 rpm and 553 lb-ft @ 6,750 rpm all effortless delivered with natural aspiration, through a 7 speed auto transmission. Lamborghini say the SVJ will get from 0 to 62mph from a standstill in just 2.8 seconds, and it’ll do double that speed in just 8.6 seconds before going on to a maximum speed of 218 mph.
The standard Aventador, if you can call it that, weighs in at around 4,000 lbs but in the SVJ they arrived at its target weight of 1,525 kg (3,362 lb), some 400 lbs less, by using copious quantities of carbon-fiber, a shortened more efficient exhaust system and super-light ‘Nireo’ aluminum rims. With more power and lighter weight all that was left to improve was the handling so the SVJ has been given various tweaks to increase mechanical grip. Power is shared to all four wheels via Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS) and Lamborghini Rear-wheel Steering (LRS), aided by the use of active torque distribution between the front and rear axles (4WD) and aero-torque vectoring (ALA). The suspension, which has been stiffened, uses a Magneto-rheological suspension (LMS) and active aerodynamics.
As is the norm for Lamborghini, the SVJ is stunning to look at and certainly makes a statement, but not as big as the statement that huge rear wing makes, which can generate an extra 40% of down force on each axle compared to the Aventador SV. Add to that a new ‘floating’ front splitter, enhanced aerodynamic profiles, a fully redesigned front, larger side skirts, the omega-shaped rear wing and lighter, higher exhaust outlets are implanted into the feather light carbon fiber chassis, which is equipped with wisely-distributed air intakes that are both different and larger than on any previous model.
Get in line now as only 63 examples will be built and as yet no prices have been released but since the Aventador S starts at $417,650, and has a ‘Ring time of 6:44.97, don’t expect it to be cheap.
