Lenovo is perhaps better known in Australia for its laptops and its ownership of the Motorola smartphone business, but that doesn’t mean it’s not in other spaces. Overnight, we received word from India that Lenovo has launched its new Lenovo Carme smartwatch which will sell for just shy of $75 AUD.
It’s a smartwatch designed for those who are already active, and those who need to get a bit more so. With a 1.3-inch IPS display, one-touch sensor and IP68 rating, the Lenovo Carme is designed to be worn and used everywhere. With a 2.5D curved surface, the Carme ensures there are no blind angles, allowing users to read and interact with their watch even in the bright midday sun.
The Lenovo Carme will come in two colours – black and green – with 7-day battery life and standby for almost a month. It shares features in common with other smart watches, including a variety of activity trackers, 24-hour heart rate monitoring, weather, find my phone functions, alarms, reminders, notifications and more. Lenovo’s Carme supports both Android and iOS and requires Bluetooth 4.2 to work best.
This mightn’t be your top shelf, $500-700 smartwatch which the Australian consumer might more typically see, but this sings out Huawei Watch GT to me – a watch that’s cheaper than most other contemporary smartwatches, offers most of the features users want, and is (virtually) indestructible.
That’s exactly what the price sensitive buyer wants, whether they’re in India or Australia. I’d be hoping that Lenovo bring us some Carme goodness here, too.
