WordCamp events are already pretty special. Each one is an opportunity to expand one’s knowledge, connect with other like-minded individuals, and establish new avenues for growth and prosperity. So, with the recent cancellations of WordCamps across the world, when a WordCamp can actually happen without interruption, it gives WordPress fans even that much more to appreciate. One of those WordCamps is WordCamp Lancaster, happening this weekend, March 14, 2020 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
To add to the excitement, our own Senior Backend Engineer, Sal Ferrarello, will be speaking at this WordPress conference and addressing the topic of “Common Security Vulnerabilities and How to Avoid Them,” which takes place at 9:15 a.m. in Left Room, 106 A/B. This will be Sal’s fourth year speaking at WordCamp Lancaster. In fact, the first ever WordCamp that Sal attended was Lancaster.
“WordCamp Lancaster is one of my favorite WordCamps,” explains Sal. “In addition to being an easy 40-minute drive from my home, it has grown to be an impressive event while maintaining a close-knit and cozy experience. In addition to WordCamp Lancaster simply being a great event, I enjoy connecting with other WordPress community members who are local to me.”
You wouldn’t know it by talking with him, but Sal is kind of a big deal among the WordPress community. His WordCamp Lancaster presentation will be his 17th WordCamp talk!
“I like being a speaker because I enjoy helping others learn,” Sal says. “WordCamps are a great opportunity to help others in the same way I’ve been helped (and continue to be helped) by the community.” You can find Sal’s past WordCamp talks at WordPress.tv.
Thinking about submitting your first talk to a WordCamp? Sal has tips, saying, “You do not need to be a subject matter expert in order to be a speaker. What do you wish someone taught you last week, last month, last year? Give the talk that would have helped you.”
Sal says that the best part of any WordCamp is the people. He’s looking forward to connecting with old friends and meeting new ones, especially at his traditional, but unofficial, WordCamp Lancaster breakfast. “It is a great and informal way to start the day,” he adds. “If you’re attending WordCamp Lancaster, I hope you’ll join me for breakfast.”
