Martha Stewart Refusing To Accept Pardon From President Donald Trump Is Satirical Tweet

Martha Stewart saying that she would refuse to accept a pardon if issued by President Donald Trump came from a satirical tweet. There is no truth to information being shared from a tweet circulating social media that the founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia had made the decision to decline any pardon made by Trump. In 2004, Stewart was convicted of charges related to the ImClone stock trading case.

Where did this satirical information originate? The Twitter account “BNW Breaking News,” posted a link on May 31, 2018, to a news story published by The Hill reporting that Trump is considering issuing a pardon for Stewart with regards to that 2004 conviction of making false statements to federal investigators, conspiracy, and obstruction. BNW Breaking News just added a little twist of their own (seen below) to an actual story.

However, Snopes reported that there is no truth behind the claim from BNW Breaking News that Stewart said that she would be refusing a potential pardon from Trump. If you check out the Twitter account’s other tweets, you will observe a pattern where they play off real news stories with their own brand of humor and parody. In reality, Stewart has not commented on the matter of a pardon.

Once you have seen the pattern behind BNW Breaking News, their account is rather amusing. It is easy to understand why someone new to their Twitter account would be fooled at first. However, some people were indeed fooled or confused by the satirical news. BNW responded to the success of that tweet by including an “update” on the matter to their timeline with a follow-up tweet noting their status as a parody account.

Here are some of those reactions to the satirical tweet on social media about Stewart and Trump.

CNN reported that Trump informed reporters that Stewart was on his list of potential pardons along with the decision to commute former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s sentence. Not too coincidentally, both are two former stars from “Apprentice” when Trump was the one doing the firing. Trump has pardoned the conservative author and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza and the deceased boxer Jack Johnson.

What did you think of the satirical tweet that Stewart responded to the rumors that Trump would be pardoning her by saying that she would refuse to accept that pardon? Did you believe the satirical tweet or see people sharing it falsely on social media? Let us know in the comments section.
