There are more than 306 BILLION business emails sent daily. That’s a lot of communication, even with the rise of workplace communications tools like Slack and Monday.com. Despite all of this communication (and they way we communicate on social with GIFs, photos, videos, emoji and stylized text), email and email subject lines have remained relatively the same. Since 2014, 76 percent of Americans said they used emoji at work. It’s now commonplace to integrate the beloved emoticons into every day electronic speak, so why not a little email disruption?

Email marketers have already gotten savvy to subject line stylization (the ability to make words bold or italicized), but they have to use several tools in order to make one subject line happen. The workflow for making a small stylized adjustment means you have to have email plus a stylization tool or generator and then copy and paste back and forth until you get it just right.

While there are arguments to be made for spam and readability purposes, social media marketers like to test (and re-test) different tactics to see which result in the best open-rates or social interactions. If something is likely to get your audience’s attention, it’s worth a test. And it doesn’t mean if something doesn’t work today that it won’t work a month or three months from now.

cloudHQ, the email management company that focuses on Gmail and G Suite emails, created the first Google Chrome extension that allows for complete customization of email subject lines. The Formatted Email Subject Lines by cloudHQ extension allows users to select from one of several pre-formatted subject lines.

To date, no other Chrome extension exists to allow for stylized email subject lines. It has remained a mostly untapped resource for anyone who sends regular emails. The extension lets you highlight various words in the subject line and choose from the following:

  • ,
  • U̲n̲d̲e̲r̲l̲i̲n̲e̲
  • S̶t̶r̶i̶k̶e̶t̶h̶r̶o̶u̶g̶h̶
  • B🅰🅰
  • Ⓦⓗⓘⓣⓔⓑⓤⓑⓑⓛⓔ

“By changing the email subject line formatting, emails stand out in an inbox and receive higher open rates,” said Naomi Assaraf, co-founder, cloudHQ. “As most email marketers know, increasing email open rates is both a key metric and one that demonstrates a businesses’ ability to connect with current customers and prospective clients.”

Formatting a subject line is then as easy as selecting from a dropdown box in the email’s subject line:

  1. Select text in the subject line by highlighting
  2. Click “Subject Style” icon on the right side of subject line
  3. Select from format style choices

If you’re looking for ways to spice up both social and email content, here’s a tool to make your workflow easier.
