At its annual hardware event today, Google announced a host of new devices for your ears, pockets, and home. The headliner was the Pixel 4: a faster, sleeker version of its premium smartphone that has an extra camera, software improvements, and support for gesture control. (Stop your alarm just by waving your hand!) A refresh to the Pixel Buds is on the way, along with a new and improved Chromebook called the Pixel Go, a Nest Mini Speaker, and a Nest Wi-Fi Router.
A trove of mouse data points toward brain-computer interfaces
Researchers at the Allen Institute for Brain Science have been peeling away pieces of mouse skulls and replacing them with little windows—you know, for science. They’ve come away with some 850 gigabytes of mouse brain data, which is great for reading the minds of mice now, and could be even better for building brain-controlled computers later.
