Cluck. Coco. Cock-a-doodle doo.
Regardless of nationality, these words are all recognized as sounds of a chicken and this sound is what Guelph’s newest Korean restaurant is named after.
Coco Chicken, located on 71 Macdonell St. opened earlier this summer to serve fried Korean chicken to the city of Guelph.
It’s owner, Minkyo Seo says there just isn’t enough Korean food for the people of Guelph.
“There’s only one Korean restaurant but there are lots of people in Guelph,” says Seo.
“Its a multicultural city with limited Korean food.”
Coco Chicken’s menu includes fried chicken sandwiches, spicy chicken wings with waffle fries and popcorn chicken with a variety of sauces to choose from.
Seo, who moved to Cambridge from Korea a few years ago, says Guelph was the perfect place to start a restaurant because of its multiculturism and people’s willingness to try new food.
He says the architecture, the atmosphere, the attitude and demographics of people make it the perfect city.
“Guelph is unique compared to other cities like Kitchener and Cambridge,” says Seo.
He says the customers who come want to try new dishes.
“We have kimchi and Asian and other eastern side dishes so they want to try new things,” says Seo.
The location was previously home to Pierre’s Poutine and with Coco Chicken’s open for just three weeks, Seo is optimistic about his business.
“It’s pretty good. Every day is sold out,” says Seo who has seen his business drastically grow within three weeks.
“Its all about the Korean chicken with crunchiness,” says Seo.
