Nike Announces Adapt Huarache Shoes With FitAdapt Power-Lacing System

Nike’s Huarache sneakers originally launched in 1991 and now the company has announced their latest iteration. The new sneakers are the most futuristic yet and feature the awesome FitAdapt lacing system. And just to prove that we live in the future, that lacing system can be controlled not only via your phone, but by using Siri or an Apple Watch, too.

The new sneakers are called Nike Adapt Huarache and they’re designed to offer preset fit recommendations based on your particular type of shoe. Those presets can be used via an app, or it can be adjusted just how your feet like it.

Where Siri and the Apple Watch come in is Siri Shortcuts. Shortcuts can be configured with custom voice commands like “Hey Siri, unlace my Nikes.” I’m not sure I could be that person, but if you can, then more power to you.

The Apple Watch will also have more interactions available to it, too.

Above this layer sits exposed elements of the Nike FitAdapt lacing system. The technology, which is run from a midfoot motor, is controlled by a multi-faceted Nike Adapt app. With the app, wearers of the Nike Adapt Huarache are greeted by a universal login (consistent for all Nike FitAdapt product — current and future), a themed interface specific to the Huarache and a number of preset fit recommendations for foot type and activity. The functionality of the app can also be driven by Apple Watch and Siri, two advances that support on-the-go shifts.

As you might expect, none of this is cheap. A retail price o $349 will get you a pair on September 13th. Assuming you can find them in stock somewhere, of course.
