Nintendo Switch fans rejoice! There may be new Joy-Cons coming, and they’re bendable, according to a recently published design patent. Published on August 29, 2019, these controllers work like its predecessors, but there’s an added hinge so players can partially bend the upper part backwards for a more ergonomic feel and making them perfect for longer gaming sessions. If you don’t have a Switch or never used Joy-Cons, these controllers can be attached to the sides of the console via rails, or detached and used wirelessly—either as a pair (similar to Wii Remote), or split between two different players. Up to eight Joy-Cons can connect to a single Switch Console simultaneously. Another option is attaching both to a “Joy-Con Grip” accessory, with or without charging capabilities, that convert the controllers to a more traditional gamepad.
When the controllers are detached from the console, both Joy-Cons operate autonomously, and communicate via Bluetooth. Wrist strap attachments are also and can be installed by sliding them onto the controllers’ rails. When will these new bendable versions be released? Many are saying that they will come standard with the rumored Nintendo Switch Pro set to be unveiled this holiday season for release in 2020.
