Siblings Phil and Martina Seo made it to the final four in last year’s Amazing Race Canada and they are returning this season in a different role.
Rather than being teammates this time around the brother and sister, who were born and raised on the North Shore, will compete against each other online in Tastes of the Race – 11 episodes that will follow the television series each week with recipes suited to the locations featured in the show.
When CTV asked them to come back, the Seo’s jumped at the chance.
“Being on Amazing Race Canada was fantastic,” says Martina Seo. “I couldn’t believe we made it so far. I’m not that athletic and there were some very athletic people in the show. Hardest thing I’ve ever done but the best time of my life.”
Martina attributed their success week after week on Season 6 to their sibling dynamic.
“We’re opposites. I think that’s why we complemented each other on Amazing Race Canada. A lot of the other teams seem too similar and so they have a lot of the same weaknesses and strengths. My strengths are my brother’s weaknesses and my weaknesses are his strengths.”
In Tastes of the Race, sponsored by Dempster’s, the two will face off in a weekly competition to see who can best create dishes inspired by the Season 7 locations using Dempster’s products.
As a home economics food studies teacher at West Vancouver Secondary, this year’s concept is entirely within Martina’s wheelhouse.
“It definitely gives me a leg up because my brother can’t cook at all. It was his dream to be on Amazing Race Canada and it was my dream to have a cooking show.”
