Shockingly, 94% of respondents aren’t ready for GDPR
With the new GDPR changes being implemented next May, it is a hot topic on every marketer’s mind.
The change in regulations will affect the way companies can retrieve, use and store data. This change severely limits the widely practiced methods of asking for an email address to receive a company whitepaper or enter into a competition, and then being kept on an email list for promotional emails and ‘spam’ that the user did not originally consent to.
GDPR will affect every company in the UK or Europe and those that send emails to, and handle data from, European companies.
Is your company GDPR ready?
Companies are starting to get into a frenzy about what they need to do and how this will affect their marketing, with some entering full ‘panic mode’. However, we were keen to find out how ready our member’s and reader’s companies are for the change next May.
Over 200 people responded, yet only 6% said their company was ready for GDPR!
Although it might seem a while away and you still have a few months to prepare, it can be a time-consuming process to reevaluate your email marketing strategy and how you can retrieve and use data for marketing purposes.
Almost half (49.2%) of respondents said that their company was aware of GDPR but haven’t started their preparations and 16% don’t know what GDPR is!
Many people might be waiting to find out more information before they begin making changes as the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) have yet to release enough information or practical guidance on the change.
If you’re unsure about what GDPR is, how or if it affects you, and how you can prepare for it in time without receiving a fine, our Email Marketing Manager has written a brand new guide detailing everything you need to know about GDPR.
