I don’t know when I noticed this, but it’s just weird that “going up in flames” and “going down in flames” mean pretty much exactly the same thing.
Surely there must be some nuance, some subtle difference between the two.
If there is, I can’t figure it out. Makes for good cartoon fodder though.
