SAP Cloud Platform (SCP) will soon be locally available on Amazon Web Services (AWS) with plans to launch across Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ) in August.

Through the AWS Asia Pacific region in Sydney, the roll-out will allow trans-Tasman customers and partners the opportunity to leverage an expanded suite of SAP solutions.

Specifically new offerings include SAP HANA service, which provides cloud instances of SAP HANA on-demand with consumption-based pricing.

This is in addition to SAP Leonardo, which leverages emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, analytics, the Internet of Things and machine learning.

“We see an incredible amount of innovation in A/NZ among our customers and we are committed to supporting that innovation by offering our customers choice,” said Stephen Moore, executive director of A/NZ at SAP.

“It’s important for us to provide our customers with local access to SAP Leonardo capabilities on AWS to continue to nurture innovation in this market.”

Moore said SCP running on AWS locally will also provide customers with access to SAP Conversational AI, allowing businesses to develop intelligent chatbots that are available as preconfigured industry-specific bots.

Furthermore, the SAP Cloud Platform Blockchain service will also be available, designed to enable enterprises to build and extend business solutions with blockchain technologies.

“Many customers in A/NZ including Contact Energy, Fairfax Media, GPT, Origin, OZ Minerals, Seek.com, and Visy Industries have trusted AWS as the best place to run their mission-critical SAP workloads, including production S/4 HANA workloads, for many years,” added Paul Migliorini, managing director of A/NZ at AWS.

“This initiative with SAP extends customers’ ability to enable digital transformation on AWS, remediate existing technology investments, but even more importantly, free up resources to drive innovation.”

The local launch also opens the door for customers to leverage specialised channel partners and developers, driven through Cloud Foundry-based SCP on AWS infrastructure.

“Our customers are making strategic decisions for deploying SAP applications on their choice of cloud infrastructure vendors, and many are adopting AWS,” said Björn Goerke, president of SCP and CTO at SAP.

“We are focused on helping them to deploy, innovate and transform in the same environment to achieve rapid innovation and transformation.

“SAP is committed to giving our customers multi-cloud choice and flexibility so that they can achieve their innovation goals. The availability of SCP in the AWS Sydney data centre extends our unique offer of multi-cloud flexibility and openness.”

The announcement comes days after SAP appointed Damien Bueno as president and managing director of A/NZ, replacing Colin Brookes who is pursuing a global role.

As reported by ARN, Bueno takes charge of a billion-dollar business spanning both sides of the Tasman, driven by strong cloud sales during the past 12 months.

The SAP stalwart joined the tech giant in 2007, working with a range of A/NZ organisations across multiple sectors in the process.

Most recently, Bueno was vice president of strategic industries and markets locally, where he spearheaded a co-investment model with the Australian Government centred around digital engagement.
