Social Media Reacts to Debbie Gibson and Partner Alan Bersten’s Elimination

The second couple to go home during season 25 of “Dancing with the Stars” is Debbie Gibson and new pro Alan Bersten. As part of this week’s double elimination, Nick Lachey and partner Peta Murgatroyd were also in jeopardy. Barbara Corcoran and Keo Motsepe were sent home during Monday’s Ballroom Night. Gibson says that thanks to the show and Bersten, it “feels like I got my life back” as she continues to overcome Lyme disease, which she has been battling since 2013.

In the premiere, the duo danced an elegant foxtrot to “Lost In Your Eyes” and scored a 17 out of 30. Early on, the judges praised Gibson and Bersten’s chemistry and Bruno Tonioli called their first dance “lovely, dovey [and] dreamy.” They danced a vibrant quickstep to “This Is My Time” for week two’s Ballroom Night and scored a 20 out of 30. She improved slightly for Latin Night, earning a 21 for her steamy Argentine tango to Camila Cabello’s “Havana” ft. Young Thug. The judges continued to praise their chemistry.

This was Bersten’s first season as a full-time pro after dancing in the troupe for several seasons. He also filled in as a pro for both Mark Ballas and Maks Chmerkovskiy, dancing with their partners Paige VanZant and Heather Morris during seasons 22 and 24, respectively. Bersten told People magazine last month that it was “a dream” to become a professional dancer on the show.

According to ABC, Gibson is a singer-songwriter, actress and dancer. “A music prodigy, Gibson exploded on the Billboard Pop Charts at the tender age of 16 with the self-penned ‘Only in My Dreams.’ The ‘Original Pop Princess’ quickly became the youngest artist ever to write, produce and perform a No. 1 hit song, ‘Foolish Beat,’ and entered the ‘Guinness Book of World Records.’ To date, she is still the youngest female to hold that record. She has sold more than 16 million albums worldwide, performed for British Royalty and hosted ‘The American Music Awards,’ produced by friend and legend Dick Clark.”

The star-studded lineup for the 25th season of “Dancing with the Stars” includes former NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens, Hamilton’s Jordan Fisher, “Pretty Little Liars” star Sasha Pieterse and “Property Brothers” co-host Drew Scott. Other stars include Victoria Arlen, Nikki Bella and Nick Lachey. Fan-favorite pros Mark Ballas and Cheryl Burke also return to the dance floor this season, along with hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews.

The judging panel features Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli. Their scores, along with America’s votes, determine which couples will go home and which ones will advance to compete for the coveted Mirrorball trophy.

“Dancing with the Stars” airs every Monday night at 8 p.m. on ABC.
