As it stands right now, Vietnam are an ASEAN powerhouse and it seems that they are only getting started.
With Park Hang-seo at the helm, the Golden Dragons have continually improved and an impressive AFC Asian Cup paired with an AFF Suzuki Cup triumph are a few of the accolades they’ve recently garnered.
Not only have the senior team been successful, but the youth teams have also gone through a successful run, highlighted by their 4-0 win over ASEAN rivals Thailand to secure their spot in the final tournament of the AFC U-23 Championship 2020.
Proving their mastery over the ASEAN nations under Park’s reign, Vietnam have yet to taste defeat against their neighbors.
Against the Philippines, Vietnam hold two wins with Park leading the way – twice in the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018.
When facing Malaysia, Vietnam have won twice and drawn in another match-up, all in the AFF Suzuki cup 2018.
They’ve beaten Myanmar in the M-150 Cup 2017 and drew in the AFF Suzuki Cup.
They’ve beaten Australia, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia and Brunei once during Park’s reign and against their fiercest rivals Thailand, Vietnam won 2-1 in the M-150 Cup 2017 and in the AFC U-23 Championship 2020 qualifiers.
As for Singapore and Timor-Leste, Vietnam have yet to face these two nations with Park at the helm.
