Three campaign workers for President Donald Trump entering “not guilty” pleas in court is fake news. There is no truth to a report that three alleged campaign operatives for Trump’s presidential campaign had plead guilty to conspiracy to collude with a foreign government. Trump has been the subject of many fake news, tweets, photos and memes. This is just the latest in a long list of them.
Where did this fake news originate? The Potatriot Post published the fake news article on April 11, 2018, reporting that three Trump campaign workers had entered “not guilty” pleas to charges of conspiracy with regards to the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 United States election by Robert Mueller, the former FBI director who now heads the Special Counsel. You can read it below.
Three high-level Trump campaign operatives were charged with conspiracy to collude with a foreign government today after being indicted by Robert Mueller’s grand jury. Sergei Russarov, Michail Menovelsi and Ivanich Lenowski all entered pleas of “But Hillary” in court.
The judge pointed out that the “But Hillary” defense didn’t hold any merit, to which their attorney responded:
“These men worked tirelessly for the Trump campaign to make sure that the champion of the American people was elected while facing the hatred and lies from Hillary Clinton at every turn. They had to work through the pain of the Benghazi movie. They had to witness the corrupt Democrats in the FBI who were posing as Republicans their whole lives waiting for the opportunity to serve Obama’s Deep State agenda.”
However, there is no truth to the above story. What is the problem with the story to make it false? For one thing, there is no legitimate news coverage of this happening. There is no record of “Sergei Russarov, Michail Menovelsi and Ivanich Lenowski” being identified in Mueller’s investigation.
Since Mueller was appointed to oversee the investigation into possible links between the Trump campaign and Russian officials, he has issued more than 100 criminal counts against 19 people and three companies. Of the 19 people, five — including three Trump associates — have pleaded guilty. Thirteen are Russians accused of meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

Currently, a bipartisan group of senators introduced legislation that would make it harder for Mueller to be fired for investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, Chris Coons, D-Delaware, Thom Tillis, R-North Carolina, and Cory Booker, D-New Jersey introduced the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act, ensuring that the special counsel can only be fired for “good cause” by a senior Justice Department official.
